As soon as I had bought myself an oscilloscope, the first thing I did was to decode the IR signal of my NAD remote control. I then wrote a program to a AVR ATtiny2313 that reproduced that blinking pattern. I later used this for making a "wake up device", that in the morning first turn on the NAD reciever and then slowly turns up the volyme until I get out of my bed and turns it of. Quite efficiently I must say.
This is what the signal of increasing the sound 1dB looks like. The remote uses the NEC protocol.
